In The Art of Teams, Ralph van Roosmalen introduces the TOTA model with six crucial components for teams to create value—based on academic research, existing models, and his 24+ years of experience.

Successful teams have clarity, care about the results, understand their impact, have valuable conflicts, experience trust, and are reliable.

When looking at organizations, teams, or management, I often look at nature. How does nature organize things? Every plants has different needs, also it depends in which climate or which area. You need to adapt the needs of plants based on the environment. I believe it is the same with teams. Every team has many of the same needs: CLARITY, IMPACT, TRUST, CONFLICTS, RELIABLE, and RESULTS. However, each team also has distinct needs.

You can buy test kits to test the quality of the soil in the garden. This maturity scan is a free test kit for your team. You can use it to gain insights in what does my team need. Not by just filling out this scan and look a the results. The power of this scan is in the conversation. The conversation between people who filled in the scan for a team, compare results and discuss the differences or similarities.
There are six questions per component. There are five possible answers, starting with totally not up to totally yes. The first questions per component are, in general, easy to realize. Where the last question are often more challenging. The last sheets show the results. One graph for how the team scores on every component, and graphs per component.
